Coughlan Not Coming

Today's Western Morning News states that Coughlan is undecided whether to the Pilgrims now. Steven Gerrard Mark II. I believe the way it is, he feels now is the best time to move on, but he hasn't been offered a better deal at City, and is now looking to stay at Argyle and possibly sign a 2 year extension on his contract.

We can't let this player slip through our fingers!

We're almost there with the squad we have - Come on City, sort something out and get this deal finished.

Would be a great shame if we failed to secure his services, maybe his wife is influencing his decision now his a little one in tow.

surely from a footballing point of veiw he should come here!?

He's only just in for talks this morning I believe, so how he can be offered a poorer contract when he's not even been in for 'talks' is beyond me rofl2br.gif

Actual;y, I have just thought that this post is flawed.

Negotiations havn't started yet as he couldn't make it yesterday, so how could he know what type of final deal he can have?

Edit - Dam Redraw, you've beaten me to it razz.gif

"...from discussions so far I don't foresee a problem." Brian Tinnion on the BCFC official site.

City Site

Therefore, they HAVE had initial conversations and they have made a provisional, without prejudice offer to the player.

Therefore he is in a position to know the relative merits of his current contract and that likely to be offered by City.

Therefore he may have thought about the stress of moving against the benefiots of a new contract....

and so it is quite likely that he is in a position to have a view on the city proposal...and may indeed be minded to stay put.

Why, from a footballing point of view, should he come here?? He's currently playing for Championship side with decent squad and manager. We are a league 1 club (yet again) with an ever receeding squad and an arse as a manager

Becuase he will get to play regular first team football here, not warming the bench like he will be in Plymouth.

and why the cheap Tinnion dig?, the season has not even started and you are already on his back.

What, not another press group that quotes rumours and hearsay on website forums as fact in their headlines ohmy.gif ...Danny Coles to Hull springs to mind.

This may, of course, come true but you could tell that yesterdays EP was purely surmising based on what they read on City websites

Maybe you should change your name to Port Marine Ted as that would make your initials PMT........this might explain why most of your posts are so tetchy! whistling.gif

We've had plenty of time to sort this out.

Too much dithering and talk

His wife gave birth, the first chance since then he's up at AG today.

What more could we have done, drag him away from the delivery suite?!

What about all the other days this week/month/year?

Just how long have we been linked to him?

dunno like. I really don't know why we are going for him, our bid has been accepted this morning for some Scotland defender from Rangers, we've already signed 2 defenders the other week. Out total defender count is about 8!

It would be a sad day when we offer money for a 30-year-old Plymouth reject.

Just like when we took on a 30 year old Swindon reject some years ago?

To me we never replaced that 'reject' but have a very good oportunity now.

I think this emoticon is needed today: praying smiley.gif

How did he get on with Sturrock?

I can see this going pear shaped....

very well i expect considering they achieved two promotions?

I too can see us losing this signing.....

the outcome of this situation may be crucial to our forthcoming season.....

I can see this situation dragging on for at least another week!

Even if Coughlan is happy with our offer he will probably want the weekend to mull it over with the missus which will give the Wendys a chance to get in touch. He will then probably want to go and see them to keep his options open which means it will drag into the middle of next week.

He will then want a few days to mull over both offers before maybe making a decision by this time next week......thats unless Preston come in with an offer!

My message to Mr. Coughlan......you will no doubt be first choice at BCFC whereas Wendys have already signed 2 further defenders and are bidding for others.

Plymouth fans seem to think you struggled a bit in the Championship last year, if true, you will no doubt be mindful of that.

Signing for City will give you a very good chance of winning another promotion, it would be unlikely at the Wendys.

Signing for City means you will be able to remain in the wonderful West Country.

and the real selling point.....where else will you get the chance to wear a fully gold, bling, bling away kit!

He has great respect for Sturrock and his missus is from Yorkshire so if their contract offer is any good he's likely to go there.

The main reason he wants to join City is he can stay at his home with a new baby even more now, come on board a little more then plymouth offered we have a good player we have been looking for.

Doh....doh....and thrice doh!  crying.gif

I wouldnt sweat it if i were you, Wednesday have hardly been unaware of his situation, I just wonder if he is trying to squeeze a bit more from our board and banking on supporters kicking up a fuss about a legend being allowed to leave similar to a mini Gerrard scenario.

Sadly he is having delusions of adequacy and burning a lot of goodwill from both sets of fans in the process, time he got his finger out he has been behaving like a bit of a primadonna lately.

I'm not really bothered if we get him, I'm happy with our defence. I want us to complete the signing of this Rangers guy and Paul Murray

If thats the case i would be pritty (I said a naughty word) off if he signed for you guys, here in Bristol we would welcome him with open arms, wub.gif

he's been suggested for some time now as the perfect player to drag us out of this league.

Oh well, not going to get my hopes up, i know where that gets me. crying.gif

well boys, I don't call the shots I'm afraid! If he realises our recent spending spree on defenders he may think otherwise

Would anyone with a new born baby really want to move over 200 miles away from the people they know. This is the reason why I expect him to sign for city.

Well we seem to be obsessed with getting another Taylor. We've had Millen, Lever, Butler and now maybe Coughlan. I'm not getting my hopes up yet razz.gif

His wife/girlfriend is said to be from Yorkshire so she'd be moving closer to friends/family who could help with the upbringing if he moved to Wednesday sad.gif

We do have a few defenders, but that doesnt mean they are good enough for this level. Bullen may play strikers role next season for example.

Sturrock has been interested in Coughlan since he arrived after hes fallen out of favour with Williamson at Plymouth....

I have that awful sinking feeling that if we were going to get Coughlan we would have signed him by nowIf we miss out on Coughlan it will be a disaster. For so long we have missed a good, tough and experienced centre- half with the experience of promotion. To be so close to signing him and lose out now would really affect our chances of going up especially if Hull are after Coles and we lose Lita. What looked to be a superb pre season in the transfer market is now potentially going to turn very sour.

According to the WDP he's coming for talks today, so i reckon it's s### or bust, if he does'nt sign today he aint coming.

Can we have a bit of a reality check here please.

I totally agree that Coughlan would be a fantastic addition to our squad and have said so from day one. However, us not signing him will not be the end of our season.

Can we all go back a few weeks and remember how great it was that a certain Marcus Stewart signed for us - and guess what - he is still a City player and has yet to put a shirt on!

Coughlan would be a great boost, however, I remain convinced that the current crop of players will still get us promoted - Coughlan would just mean as the Champions!
